Buronga
When a bridge replaced the Mildura punt, a village grew at the NSW end.

WHAT STARTED IT
Mildura grew on the Victorian bank, and for decades a punt carried traffic to the New South Wales side. The bridge that opened in 1927 landed opposite the town, and Crown land at its northern end became the village of Buronga.
WHAT SUSTAINED IT
Crown allotments were auctioned at Buronga in 1930, and the government formally declared it a village in 1939. It sat between the older riverside settlement of Gol Gol and the new Coomealla irrigation area.
