Charleville
Bullock teams, coaches and rail made a western hub.
1868Town surveyed · wool-route depot
WHAT STARTED IT
Pastoral settlement created a heavy wool route towards the railhead at Roma. Charleville grew as a stores, inn and government stop where hundreds of bullock teams passed each year.
WHAT SUSTAINED IT
The town reserve was gazetted in 1865 and William Tully surveyed and named Charleville in 1868. Rail arrived in 1888; Cobb & Co made it a major coach base and built coaches locally from 1893.
