Kingaroy
A railway peg became peanut country’s capital.
1904Rail terminus opens · town expands
WHAT STARTED IT
Kingaroy formed where a planned railway extension ended at the edge of the old Taabinga pastoral run. A small settlement existed beforehand, but the 1904 terminus triggered hotels, stores and public services.
WHAT SUSTAINED IT
Closer settlement and land clearing encouraged dairying and crops. Peanuts became a mainstay in the 1920s, announced visually by the first large silo in 1928. Kingaroy outgrew its brief life as a terminus to become the South Burnett’s main service centre.
