1878Broadwater frontage bought and subdivided
WHAT STARTED IT
Robert Muir and a partner bought 56 hectares fronting the Broadwater south of Biggera Creek in 1878 and soon subdivided it. The Labrador Hotel, with its own jetty, became the terminus of Cobb & Co’s coaches to Southport.
WHAT SUSTAINED IT
Holiday homes such as Labrador House and the Grand Hotel at Deepwater Point (1886) were joined by fishing families and oyster-bed lessees. A school opened in 1921, and after World War II Labrador grew as a dormitory suburb of Southport, with many beachfront streets laid out in the 1950s.
