Riverboats, roads and the Riverina’s wool.

WHAT STARTED IT
Narrandera developed as a service and transport centre beside the Murrumbidgee. River steamers carried stores and wool, while road traffic and surrounding pastoral properties supported inns and businesses.
WHAT SUSTAINED IT
The village was surveyed in 1860 and proclaimed in 1863. River and later railway transport enlarged its role in the Riverina. Irrigation infrastructure west of town brought another important connection between the settlement and regional farming.
